150 years after Lewis Carroll invented the character of Alice and plunged her into the fantastic world which has since taken firm root in the universal imagination, Fabrice Melquiot takes another look at this famous classic in an original stage show which reveals a new world behind the mirror.
In this "Wonderland" at the heart of a great Chinese city of the 21st century, we rediscover the iconic characters of the tale with an almost dumb surrealistic bestiary, which modernity has equipped with a new language. The prolific playwright, who has received many awards for his inventiveness and the 25 acrobatic artists of the Tianjin traditional circus, breathe life into Carroll's tale by turning movement into language.
In this strange country, where we discover a complete urban world full of vibrations, the stage direction carries us away on an odyssey full of mysteries and dangers, following the footprints of improbable creatures who move through a maze of lights. From dizziness to thrills, from virtuoso contorsions to metaphoric dances, the magic takes over: before the astounded eyes of adults or children, fifteen scenes follow one after the other, bringing to life a spectacular box of curiosities where an exotic and contemporary Alice follows her endless journey with renewed vigour. A dynamic and very simple stage direction brings to life the imagery of Fabrice Melquiot while at the same time showcases the athletic, artistic performances of the acrobats.
