To penetrate the dream world of Système Castafiore, you should first get rid of any Cartesian thought, as each creation is in itself an imaginary "world" of images, movement and sound. This alliance between a virtual game and a bodily presence makes us see UFOs asRenée as a botanist in the hyperbolic planes a fictional and profoundly human work which explores the landscapes of memory. And questions knowledge, language, plurality of meaning based on one key question: how can sparse fragments, sometimes partly removed or buried, reform in mass to produce a language, then a story? The exploration begins with five dancers sent on a sensual exploration within the confines of the memory of Renée (the symbolic figure of a woman), peopled with universal, mythological images, animals and fantastic creatures... Figures, shadows, fleeting spectres that inhabit our own dreams, mind and consciousness. Our memory! As ever with Karl Biscuit and Marcia Barcellos, the two kindred spirits that make up Système Castafiore, metaphysics flirts with the wonderment; and as always the mechanism is sophisticated and the illusion total. Here, dance and video - more than ever a technological tool, is a real revelation - sound and light breathe life in to the moving, fluffy and lunar mental landscape. A poem on the human soul, it's like a metaphor for our relationship with the world.
